Special Needs Programs
The Reading Recreation Division is pleased to continue to offer The Arc of East Middlesex Recreation programs to our line-up.  The following programs are sponsored by the Reading Recreation Division and are offered through The Arc of East Middlesex.  Please contact Arc Recreation at (781) 942-4888 ext. 4036 with any questions you may have.  Below is just a small sample of all the programs The Arc of East Middlesex offers.  Any participants that would like to take part in any of the Arc programs need to pre-register with Arc Recreation by completing an Arc registration form.  Also, please check out more programs at The Arc of East Middlesex website at www.theemarc.org.

WARRIORS BASKETBALL
(Ages 22+)

This Special Olympics Team is headed into its third season!  Practice will start in November/December in order to get all our practices in before qualifying events!  Practices run from December through March, plus the State Winter Games in March and a qualifying event.  Space may be limited on this travel team.

DATES:  December 6th - March 21st (no program 12/27)
          Tournament on March 13-14, 2010

TIME:  3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

FEE:  $60 / season

LOCATION:  Malden YMCA

HALLOWEEN DANCE
(Ages 13-22)

We're celebrating the fall with our annual costume dance!  This costume dance is an integrated function with students from Reading Memorial High School and North Reading High School.  What will you be this year?  Attendants are invited and welcome; supervision will be provided.

Please RSVP online.  Make sure you "check out" of the system so your name is added to the list.  Payment is accepted at the door or online.

DATE:  Friday, October 23rd

TIME:  7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

FEE:  $10 suggested donation

(Ages 10-14)

Join Katya Farrell and get your hands into some great cooking projects as we explore fun, healthy and interesting recipes you can make.  Learn how to be safe and more independent in the kitchen and try some new foods!  Hand-over-hand assistance available.  Siblings and community members welcome.  

DATES:  Tuesdays, October 6th - November 17th (7 weeks)

TIME:  3:30 PM - 4:30 PM

FEE:  $60

FINE DINING CLUB
(Ages 35 and up)

Do you like getting dressed up and going out?  Come with us and experience the culinary delights of the area's finest restaurants!  Staff will help in the selection and purchase of a meal.  Bring $30-$40 for each dining experience.  Participants will have the opportunity to improve social, communication and etiquette skills.  The registration fee is $15 for each event and is due one week in advance.  Minimum 6 participants to run each event.  ALL EVENTS MEET AT 20 GOULD STREET, READING.

SOCIAL SKILLS MUSIC THERAPY
(Ages 5-11)

... beautiful background music 

This music therapy group will focus on language and communication through music, songs and activities.  It is designed for children with moderate to advanced language and communication skills, students who are increasing their verbal skills and those who are working on social communication and interactions.  Parent participation is required. This is not a drop-off program.  Group will be led by Meredith Pizzi, MT-BC, Board Certified Music Therapist.

DATES:  Session I  - Wednesdays, January 20th - March 3rd
                         (No session on February 17th)
          Session II - Wednesdays, March 31st - May 12th
                         (No session on April 21st)

TIME:  4:45 PM - 5:35 PM

FEE:  $150* per 6 week session

MUSIC THERAPY

Are you ready to make some music?  In our music therapy groups, we will use the inherent fun and motivation in music to address communicative, social, behavioral, and sensory goals of the group members.  Group participants will be singing and playing along as we join together in therapeutic and supportive music making!  Parent participation is required; this is not a drop-off program.  Groups will be led by Meredith Pizzi, MT-BC Board Certified Music Therapist.

Dates:  Session I:  Wednesdays, January 20th - March 3rd
                                  (no class on February 17th)
             Session II:  Wednesdays, March 31st - May 12th

Time:  3:50 PM - 4:40 PM  3 - 7 year olds
            5:40 PM - 6:30 PM  8 -13 year olds
