Bare Meadow is an 84 acre site located in the north east area of Town, with parking and an entrance located off of Pearl Street. The entrance is well marked by a sign and has parking spaces for a few cars. A second entrance is off of Franklin St., next to the cemetary.
Bare Meadow consists of a large pasture, apple orchard, and wooded areas. Many of the stone walls are left over from earlier farming uses of this land. The Bare Meadow Brook flows through the area and feeds into the Ipswich. Many plant species can be found here, and wildlife (especially birds) is plentiful.
Bare Meadow is a prime location for recreational activities. An extensive trail system is great for hiking and can also be used for cross-country skiing in the winter. It is also good for birdwatching or nature walks.
The majority of Bare Meadow was acquired by the town between 1972 and 1973. Part of the land was donated, while other plots were acquired from additional purchases by the Town. In 1993, 30 more acres were added to this area from a landswap.
