Proposed Sign By Law Changes

In January 2010, the Community Planning and Development Commission (CPDC) began working on zoning amendments to the existing Sign By-Law for consideration at Town Meeting later this year. Sign By-Law amendments were recommended to the CPDC by the Economic Development Committee. In 2008, the Economic Development Committee (EDC) surveyed local businesses to learn more about the issues facing them. The survey found that one of the biggest concerns was understanding and abiding by the sign by-law. The information from the survey provided the EDC with a foundation to build on revising the Town's sign by-law.  For the last several month the EDC spent a great deal of time going through the current sign by-laws, line by line, to determine which sections needed revisions. A public forum was also held on January 13th to gain community input. After the January 13th public meeting, the EDC gave their proposed changes to the CPDC. The CPDC will bring forward the recommend zoning by-law amendments for consideration at Town Meeting in April. A public hearing for the Sign By-Law Zoning Changes is planned for Monday, March 1st.

On Monday, March 1st the CPDC voted to recommend sign by-law amendments to Annual Town Meeting in April. Click the following link to see the warrant article.

In 2008, the town’s Economic Development Committee surveyed local businesses to learn more about the issues facing them.  The survey found that one of the biggest concerns was with the sign by-law.  This information provided the EDC with a foundation to build on revising the Town’s sign by-law. The EDC is now seeking community input in advance of the next step which is to present proposed changes of the sign by-law to the planning commission and then it will be before Town Meeting for adoption.
